Sex-Selective Abortion in the United Kingdom

The Telegraph has produced an investigation that has led Health Minister, Andrew Lansley, to condemn the practice of sex-selective abortions in the United Kingdom. Obviously, its morally repugnant to abort for such arbitrary 'social reasons', but to commit genocide against Down's Syndrome babes in the womb is hunky dory. Of course, all those people arguing that hard cases make bad law in the run up to the passing of the Abortion Act, and who argued we may be placing our vaselined feet onto a steep slope towards an explicitly eugenic society were just barking, right-wing, pro-life nutters. Are The Guardian and the BBC covering this story, I wonder? Ah, I see the stories are covered, but, alas, and not surprisingly for these liberal institutions, this doesn't appear to be 'major headline news'.

If one will kill an innocent, unborn child for any reason, e.g. the child has "a disability", or because the child is simply not wanted, then why not because the sex of the child doesn't appeal? There is no moral difference between killing an innocent baby because she's a girl and killing her for any other "reason". All "reasons" are wrong, and none can make the killing morally acceptable. Once the killing of unborn children is permitted at all, it can and will be done for any "reason" whatever, including the sex of the baby. The sex "reason" simply highlights the absurdity, the arbitrariness, the evil, that is abortion. If one condemns abortion motivated by the baby's sex, one ought to ask oneself why one doesn't condemn it for any other stated motive.

I thought it was only third world countries practices. But then I also wonder if it is only a few handful of countries once colonised by countries nowadays only nominally Catholic, embraced and sustained by the Faith that actually remain committed to the cause for life.

It's a woman's choice, so what's the problem?

(I hope this will get people to realize that some choices are bad because they end up in murder.)

Lynda makes my points exactly and very eloquently. I'm only surprised when reading comments elsewhere that others are suddenly shocked and scandalised, having enthusiastically supported abortion on demand. They fail to see the illogicality of their position.
What an opportunity for our bishops to state the case.

Yes what an opportunity for our Bishops to state the case.

I think this could be just the sort of catalyst which starts a lot of people thinking about just where we are going.
