Adult Formation: Catholicism

I've been in London for the first half of the weekend and was told of an excellent adult catechetical program taking place at St Benedict's, Ealing Abbey on Friday evenings at 7pm.

One of the bright stars emerging in the Church is the US priest, Fr Robert Barron whose 'Word on Fire' apostolate has done impressive things spreading the wonder of the Catholic Church with his excellent insights into the Holy Faith.

The program, a DVD which can be shown to adults interested in learning more about their faith can be used in either 12 or 22 sessions of catechetical formation. Around the DVD episodes can be built handouts with scripture readings and excerpts from the Catechism of the Catholic Church for group discussion. This seems to be the format at Ealing Abbey and I have been told that it is a great tool for learning more about the Faith, so that adults can pass the Faith down to their children and on to friends and family.

So if you are a parish priest tearing his hair out as to how to generate enthusiasm for the teachings of Holy Mother Church, you could certainly do worse than buying a projector, a screen and a copy of Fr Robert Barron's DVD for your parish hall in order to inspire your congregation to learn the depths and riches of the Holy Faith. It seems to be a successful enterprise at St Benedict's.
