Thank you very much for the further information regarding this role.
Unfortunately, as a Catholic, I can see some things in the 'Statement of Faith' that I cannot in conscience sign, since they do not reflect what the Catholic Church believes.
Just as an example:
'3. The Bible, as originally given, is the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour.'
Well, the Bible is not, in the opinion of the Church, the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour, since it requires interpreting by an Infallible Body which cannot err, otherwise anyone can look at the Bible and behave or believe as they interpret it on a wholly subjective basis.
I believe that the Catholic Church is the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour because it is holy, since it was founded by Jesus Christ and is guarded from error and falsehood by the Holy Spirit.
There are other points, as well, at which I would not be able, in conscience, to sign this 'Statement of Faith' without committing formal apostasy from the Catholic Church.
I would be happy to sign the Nicene Creed as a Statement of Faith which I attach in place of the one given by the Evangelical Alliance.
Shall I still apply?
Best wishes.

Oops. I think I was meant to say 'Yours sincerely', but we're Christian brothers who believe the same things, right? So I think it will be okay. No reply yet though...
What a silly thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI assume you disagree with Catholic bodies being allowed to ask that employees are practising Catholics and uphold the faith?
You are using the same logic as the likes of the National Secular Society.
This is a charity set-up by protestants to act in accordance with their beliefs. If you don't agree with their beliefs - don't join.
Who will you target next? CAFOD, for asking that all employees adhere to the teaching of the Church. OK, bad example, but do you get my point?
Dear Evangelical Protestants everywhere,
ReplyDeleteGreetings.
The Bible, you see, was put together by the Catholic Church. She decided which books should be included, and which should be not included.
Before the books of the New Testament were written the Catholic Church was founded and given a mandate to teach by God Incarnate AKA Jesus Christ, the second person of the Holy Trinity.
Your religion dear, friends, as invented by men some 1500 years after the Catholic Church oversaw the compilation of the Bible.

ReplyDeleteNo.
This advert is for heretics only.
The Catholic Church, I believe, accepts, as well as actual Catholics people of goodwill in professions in the Church's educational field, etc.
ReplyDeleteFor example, a non-Catholic teacher in a Catholic school may be asked to uphold Catholic teachings.
They would not, I doubt, be asked to make a Statement of Faith to which they could not possibly adhere.
And by the way, the only reason I'm posting on this is because it was advertised in the newsletter of a CATHOLIC CHURCH.
ReplyDeleteBones - your "beef" seems to be with the church in question rather than the protestant charity.
ReplyDeleteHave you written to the parish priest? If so, have you had a response?
