Whether or not the UK govt decides to introduce gay marriage next year, the European High Court would still be able to act if your assumption is correct that any EU vote automatically translates into a change of UK law. Also, given that the UK is (semi-officially) an anti-Catholic nation. At least in the sense that it's national religious system, which is upheld by monarchy and parliament, is based on historical opposition to the Roman Church. So I don't see why a nation whose laws have no basis in Catholic theology is threatened by the prospect of a Catholic Europe forcing its Catholic Church to violate Catholic law (if you follow me). Surely the argument works the opposite way. Catholics, who are a welcomed but minority presence in this country, and who in any case don't all oppose gay marriage, have no right to impose their foreign Roman law on a sovereign nation. You are welcome to go live in Rome, or Warsaw, or Madrid, or any other country where you believe these laws are sacrosanct. In this country they are not, and the 'lock' against your foreign notions is called English liberty. We must be fee from minority views defining morality. Catholics, Muslims, Hindus etc are all perfectly welcome to stay in the UK, but please don't force your views on us.
