I particularly like the part where the young priest is enthusing about the revolutionary activities of priests in South America, and the monk asks, 'But what has that to do with saving souls for God?'
Sadly, we are not reminded enough that the fundamantal mission of the Church is the salvation of souls, which is true Charity, rather than the 'I'm OK, you're OK' attitude which is the norm of today's society.
'quite moving' - that is a British understatement!
The excerpts are taken from a film - I think it was called 'The Conflict' starring Cyril Cusack and Martin Sheen. The latter being the yoga practising young priest.
I am sure I once watched the whole film on the computer but a quick search has not found it yet. It moved me to tears as although it is set in the future so much seems relevant today.
I go to Ireland once a year to visit relatives and if you think the liturgy is bad here you should go there. I actually dread going to mass there its so bad. The last couple of years I've managed to find a TLM which requires a big round trip but the NO is just awful.
Interesting clip. I must try and get the whole film.

I wonder if men in Ireland today would respond as the song promises.
ReplyDeleteAs always, the book is even greater than the film.
ReplyDeleteThe film is called 'Catholics'. It is based on the novel of the same name by Brian Moore.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a copy of this on Amazon
