Council Orders Shipping Containers for the Homeless

The Argus report that there is plan in place to house a number of Brighton's homeless in shipping containers in a disused car park space behind the Cobbler's Thumb pub in the London Road area. This is an interesting development, I think you'll agree.

Some form of provision for the city's homeless not housed in awful temporary accommodation or hostels is better than no provision.

I do worry, however, that the Council is wasting a lot of empty office space and a lot of empty shops and a lot of empty homes. People forget that squatters only squat because so many properties, residential and commercial, are empty. So much empty, disused property is a gross insult to those who find themselves sleeping outside the doors of the very same buildings.
