US Church's Worse Fears Confirmed

Speaking to friend's it must sound to others as if I have a rabid fascination and obsession with the new President-Elect, Barack Obama. Well, even though he is still awaiting inauguration and has only just been shown around his new house, his 'embryonic' administration (pardon the pun, just making the point that we believe that his administration is alive even though we cannot yet see it) is already making noises suggesting that years of Republican protection of human embryos and regulation of abortion could, by power of 'executive orders' get cast into the bin, just like the innocent lives which will be lost as a result.

Obama's early moves seem to suggest he is the liberal nightmare. On one hand he is suggesting having a positive view of human rights in his determination to give detainees in Guantanamo Bay fair trials on US soil. This has to be applauded. On the other hand, human life in its earliest and most vulnerable stages will be desecrated and trampled upon by his policies on embryonic research and abortion. Such 'executive orders' are a frightening prospect for any president but concerning in the lack of democratic validity they exhibit. We have just had the HFE Bill here and the result was far from favourable for the unborn. For once, it seems, this is one 'trend' that is born in the UK, to be exported to the US.

From Catholic Online

The Washington Post reported on Sunday: “Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse White House policies on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team…. The sources confirmed that “A team of four dozen advisers, working for months in virtual solitude, set out to identify regulatory and policy changes Obama could implement soon after his inauguration. The team is now consulting with liberal advocacy groups, Capitol Hill staffers and potential agency chiefs to prioritize those they regard as the most onerous or ideologically offensive, said a top transition official who was not permitted to speak on the record about the inner workings of the transition.”

So, with the stroke of a pen human embryos would become property, capable of being “manufactured” like a commodity, and available to be used as spare parts in experimentation which has produced no discernible scientific results. It is all even more troubling because adult stem cell research and fetal chord blood research have actually shown significant promise but have received little or no attention or research support. Most importantly, the use of these stem cells is never deadly. Every so called “extraction” of embryonic stem cells kills a living human embryo. I write as a Catholic Christian who warned of the implications of the new administrations’ pledge to Planned Parenthood to pass the evil “Freedom of Choice Act” which would enshrine the results of the Roe and Doe opinions into Federal law and remove every limiting restriction on abortion on demand. Now, this news from inside the transition team of the President elect indicates that the grave dangers to human life may begin even before the new President has a chance to make good on that promise.
