National Geographic Front Cover for the Blessed Virgin Mary

National Geographic has Our Blessed Lady on the front cover this December. Usually, magazines available in newsagents depict women in a rather graceless fashion.

How refreshing it is, then, to see our Heavenly Queen, full of grace, grace such a widely read magazine.

The article, which features Marian Shrines new and old, recognised and unrecognised, is entitled 'How the Virgin Mary Became the World's Most Powerful Woman' and it can be read here.

'Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever.'

Let's pray that more magazines more and more look to Mary as the full expression of womanhood and the true model of beauty and strength, 'for charm is deceptive and beauty is vain but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.'

Warning: The National Geographic article features Medjugore and a bare breasted African lady nursing a baby.

Oh, blimey. Medjugorje.

Please check Catholic truth before desporting Our Lady as an advocate of lies.

"The worst kind of heretic is the one, while teaching mostly true Catholic doctrine, adds a word of heresy, like a drop of poison in a cup of water.” Pope Leo XIII

Our Lady is perfect.
The article isn't.

Thanks for the link. It is indeed a pity that Medgugorje leads the article but at least later on it states that that site is one of two dozen sites in 'wait-and-see mode'.

When I was in Lourdes this summer I saw a poster for a film described as the first Cinema Documentary on Our Lady. As the flier bore a recommendation from the Archbishop of Brussels (now retired I believe) I went to see it but was disappointed that it featured both Medjugorje and a rather dubious lady so-called seer. I can only presume that the good Archbishop was only shown extracts before he gave his comment.

I do wish the powers that be would hurry up and pronounce on Medjugorje!

PS Your 'I'm not a robot thingy' is sometimes so blurred so as to make it almost impossible to get right! It took me 6 attempts this time! And I see that it must be geared to Americans too!

Ugh, Medjugorje!

You should not judge Medjugorje. I doubt you have been there to experience it. You are a fool to even understand it. Read the full book version of Lourdes and you will see the same story.

You will be surprised then about Our Lady of Medjugorje

Ugh to you - I love Our Lady of Medjugorje.

Not only does it start off with Medjugorje, it has a picture of a barebreasted female and a baby and some strange voodo cult. I am sorry I clicked on it. National Graphic is notorious for having pictures of naked natives. Next time post a warning. It is bad enough coming across nudity on the Internet but I don't expect a link from a traditional Catholic blog.

I must defend Medjugorje against those speaking against it. I assume that those who have commented have never been there. Why not go and see for yourself? I, two of my siblings, my aunt, my niece and several trustworthy friends have visited Medj., some several times. ALL have reported extraordinary and beautiful experiences whilst there and all have been confirmed in their faith. If this is diabolical, then Satan has gone soft or mad, someone (him?) demanded of me, while I was there, that I pray the Rosary daily, which I try to do. If we all imagined these things, then why have we not imagined similar things at other pilgrimage sites? She appeared begging for peace before the Balkans was set alight with violence, just as She did in Kibeho before the tribal violence erupted and the genocide followed. Queen of Peace, pray for us.

Sorry, I was typing in a rush and forgot about warning readers of the naked African baby lady.

Medj is only one part of it, as you will have read.

Dear Lepanto, I understand where you're coming from and know you're a sincere adherent to the Deposit of Faith, intact and untainted. However, I think the evidence is quite compelling that the visions are not from God. I went once to Medjugorje in May or June of 1989. Yes, of course, many good things are promoted, and prayer and devotion and sacrifice of good Catholics will always bring graces, but these are not due to the alleged apparitions.

I think there have also been bad fruits. If the numbers of people who have a devotion to Medjugorje, had truly converted to the One True Faith, there'd be a lot more people upholding the Faith and morals. In Ireland, most Catholics have been to Medjugorje, some going regularly, but most "Catholics" here do not uphold the whole Faith nor fight against the intrinsic evils such as sodomy and abortion.

Many more tend to look to such apparitions than would otherwise due to the grave crisis of general apostasy in the Church. People are searching as we struggle in these evil times.

If we focus on the unchangeable truths of the Faith and the moral law, we won't be led astray by apostates, heretics or anyone pushing error. We have approved Marian apparitions such as Lourdes, La Salette, Quito and Akita, etc. There is no need to look to ones that have not been approved and that orthodox bishops have warned people about believing in.

God bless.

Beautiful picture. But as always with National Geographic, which came into my home for many years, the approach will always be a materialist one, a sociological or anthropological approach.

@Lepanto. I've not been to the med you Jorge, but it's been enough time and evidence now to know that something's rotten in the state of ... the endless contradictions placed in the mouth of Our Lady via medu minions and mafia is enough to drop a penny for any Catholic sense?

PS. thankfully private revelation remains personal and is proper if it does not contradict the faith.
