Introducing Rome's Favourite Bird...

Not to be confused with...

Bad graffiti and I'm not sure His Holiness would approve. Looks a bit promethean...

Time Magazine, Rolling Stone Magazine and now 'Super-Fran' graffiti in Rome, plus papal doves getting massacred by ravens and gulls in St Peter's. All very odd!

When reality intervenes and photo-ops go bad. No staged shots of a little lamb draped about the neck here.
There is something viscerally terrifying and intuitively foreboding about the sudden injection of savage reality within the context of the manufactured symbolism of this event.

That gull grabbed the dove by the tail! I just wish a whole bunch of robins would fly over and peck away at the gull and crow. Now that would be truly symbolic...

Liam Ronan, so well said. My feelings exactly. The happy feel good papacy rudely interrupted by uncomfortable, scary realities.

Did you see:

While acknowledging that the Holy Father’s appearance on the front cover (Rolling Stone) shows the interest in different environments, Fr. Lombardi denounced the negative portrayal of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s pontificate, saying the article disqualifies itself as serious journalism.

“Unfortunately, the article disqualifies itself, falling in the usual mistake of a superficial journalism, which in order to highlight the positive aspects of Pope Francis, thinks it should describe in a negative way the pontificate of Pope Benedict, and does so with a surprising crudeness,” Fr. Lombardi said in a statement.

And this article is different than 95 percent of Pope Francis coverage in what way?

I think Francis will be named People magazine's "Sexiest Man of 2014", with the logic that he has lowered guilt associated w/ sex for millions, since who is he to judge?
